Trying to Install Displaylink on my AntiX box

Greetings,

I am not a linux expert...but I am trying to get the displaylink driver to work for my Antix installation so I can use the dock that uses displaylink. I see that AntiX was not specifically called out in the listing but I assumed this variation is not much different. Any assistance at all will be most appreciated.

I have just been through the process of getting DisplayLink drivers to work on antiX. In my case I have a Lenovo P1 Gen 4 laptop and I was attaching a Lenovo DK1523 dock. There were three issues I had to deal with before it worked:

1. antiX isn’t one of the listed distributions for the displaylink-debian.sh script. So, I hard coded the distribution to Devuan which is the only one in the list that uses SysVinit (as I use the SysVinit version of antiX).

I did this by adding the line:
lsb=Devuan
at the end of the section starting:
# globalvars

2. The official DisplayLink driver script that is downloaded as part of the install process doesn’t recognise SysVinit as a valid init system and crashes out with a message to that effect.

To get round this I just commented out the
exit 1
line that exits the code at that point.
It is OK to bypass this as the displaylink-debian.sh script goes on to install the SysVinit code after the official install script has run.

This change can’t be made directly as the driver script isn’t downloaded until during the install process. However, the displaylink-debian.sh script modifies the driver script once it has been downloaded using a patch and I just added this change to the patch.

3. After the installation and reboot, the driver wasn’t properly detected on my system that uses an Intel graphics card with the i915 driver. To get round this I followed the advice in the post-install-guide.
   I had to change the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-displaylink to the following:
   Section "OutputClass" Identifier "DisplayLink" MatchDriver "evdi" Driver "modesetting" Option "AccelMethod" "none" EndSection

and reboot.

There is still one issue that I haven't resolved. The installation of the DisplayLink driver has resulted in a 30s delay in the shutdown of antiX. If anyone can shed any light on this I would much appreciate it.

The following file contains the updated installation script and the replacement patch that should go in the resources directory:

Anyone else facing this issue could try this version of the script or it should be easy to use this information to modify the official displaylink-debian.sh script to work on antiX if it is still being updated.

I think I have found the final piece of the jigsaw and got rid of the 30s delay when shutting down the computer.

The driver file in /opt/displaylink is called DisplayLinkManager and this breaks the rule for systems using SysVinit with a fifteen character limit. I changed the name of the file to DisplayLinkMan and modified the init file that goes in /etc/init.d to the one in the attachment:

displaylink.sh.zip

Now everything seems to be working properly.
