[ENHANCEMENT] Saved Prompts Feature

Looking for a feature that allows you to write, save and pick from predefined prompts right under the context input box. Maybe right next to the "auto-approved" box.

Context (who is affected and when)

This would allow users to set and re-use pre-defined prompts. Currently I go to the task history, then go to "all" then go and copy/paste old prompts that I need to re-use.

Desired behavior (conceptual, not technical)

A pop up box or scroll down option to pick pre-defined prompts that you have saved with the specific AI model as an option to set as well. AN option to add new prompts too here or in settings.

Proposed Implementation: Saved Prompts Feature

Overview

Add a "Saved Prompts" feature that allows users to save, manage, and quickly insert predefined prompts into the chat input area.

Components

1. Data Model (New Types)

• Add SavedPrompt type with fields: id, name, content, apiConfigId (optional - to associate with a specific model/API config)
• Add savedPrompts array to extension state

2. Settings UI (webview-ui/src/components/settings/SavedPromptsSettings.tsx)

• New settings section for managing saved prompts
• List view of existing prompts with edit/delete actions
• Form to add new prompts (name, content, optional API config dropdown)
• Similar pattern to existing SlashCommandsSettings

3. Chat Input UI Integration

• Add a button/dropdown near the auto-approve toggle in ChatTextArea.tsx
• Clicking opens a popover/dropdown showing saved prompts
• Selecting a prompt inserts the content into the input and optionally switches the API config

4. Backend Storage

• Store saved prompts in VS Code settings (similar to how slash commands are stored)
• Message handlers for CRUD operations on saved prompts

I have implemented the Saved Prompts feature as discussed. Here is the summary:

1. Create, Edit, Delete Saved Prompts - Full CRUD operations in Settings > Saved Prompts section
2. Quick Access Dropdown - Bookmark icon near chat input for selecting saved prompts
3. Prompt Replaces Input - Selected prompts replace the current input text (as confirmed)
4. API Config Auto-Switch - Optionally associate an API configuration that auto-switches when selecting a prompt
5. Import/Export - Export all saved prompts as JSON, import from JSON file (merges without duplicates)
6. Persistent Storage - Saved prompts are stored in global settings
