Im in Ubuntu 18.04 using Linux 5.3.0-62-generic kernel. Always display node-gyp -v v5.1.0 altough i installed node-gyp v7.0.0 globally.

It's seem's package is obsolete and abandoned.

I face the problem too, solved by using the node version 8 then npm install would be fine.

same problem I am using v20 on mac m1 , tried withnpm installinstead of npm i but same result.
