yes, following storybook standards would be good, but if those stories were typescript, you could simply satisfies <blah> where needed and it should be typed properly.

It looks like the errors in the screenshot from OP are because the editor is not resolving types properly.

it renders correctly with no errors in my editor:

this is a non-issue, except for converting to typescript, and then doing type Story = StoryObj<typeof meta>;. That's the only reason they need to assign meta to a variable in the storybook documentation.
