i was trying to upgrade the raspi os with forklift, sometimes i will meet some problem during switch branch. Do you have some tutorial how should i use the forklift properly?

I have currently the beta branch locally and want to change to edge branch, but after i used forklift plt switch github.com/openuc2/os-rpi/tree/edge@75ca576 i only get error back and cant do anything with the forklift, you will have better idea what was wrong. @ethanjli

Writing a forklift tutorial hasn't been prioritized yet, because other tasks have been set as higher priority for me to do; so I haven't written a tutorial yet. The closest thing we have is a how-to guide for upgrading to the latest development version (i.e. the latest commit on the edge branch, which is probably what you're trying to do), at https://docs.openuc2.com/usage/components/os/guides/day-2/updates

In this specific case, the following command is incorrect:

forklift plt switch github.com/openuc2/os-rpi/tree/edge@75ca576

Instead, you should run one of the following commands:

• forklift plt switch github.com/openUC2/os-rpi@edge, to switch to the latest commit on the edge branch (which could be newer than commit 75ca576, depending on when you run this command)
• forklift plt switch github.com/openUC2/os-rpi@75ca576, to switch specifically to commit 75ca576

This is because the format of the command is forklift plt switch repo@version_query, where repo needs to be something like github.com/openUC2/os-rpi , not github.com/openuc2/os-rpi/tree/edge (which is not a repo! if you try to run git clone github.com/openuc2/os-rpi/tree/edge, that will also fail!); and version_query can be an abbreviated commit hash (e.g. 75ca576), a full commit hash (e.g. 75ca576821785acdc74043f3847d5e2fbcd858c7), the name of a branch, or the name of a git tag.

After you run a command which starts with forklift plt switch github.com/openUC2/os-rpi@ and you see that the command finishes successfully without any errors, then in the future you can (and should!) omit github.com/openUC2/os-rpi from commands, e.g.:

• forklift plt switch @edge
• forklift plt switch @75ca576

This is because Forklift remembers which repo you want to use (which in this case is github.com/openUC2/os-rpi).
