Enable Zenodo DOI archiving

To improve long-term preservation, reproducibility, and citability of EasyScience software, we are enabling Zenodo GitHub integration for all active EasyScience repositories (libraries and applications).

By linking a repository to Zenodo, every GitHub release is automatically archived and assigned a persistent DOI, making it easier for users to cite the software correctly in publications and reports. This also aligns with FAIR principles and common practices in scientific software development.

⚠️ Every project developer needs to complete the following steps:

Steps

1. Navigate to https://zenodo.org and click Log in
2. Select Sign in with GitHub
3. Open Account → GitHub
   https://zenodo.org/account/settings/github/
4. Find the repository you want to archive (e.g. easyscience/peasy-lib) and enable it (toggle ON)
   You should see: “Repository synced successfully. Please reload the page.”
5. On the next GitHub release, Zenodo will automatically archive the release and assign a DOI
   The project-level DOI will appear next to the repository name (e.g. 10.5281/zenodo.XXXXXXXX) on the same page:
   https://zenodo.org/account/settings/github/
6. Copy this DOI and update the project configuration in the home repository
   (e.g. easyscience/peasy) following:
   https://github.com/easyscience/templates (Section 2.4)
7. Reapply the templates to the dependent repository
   (e.g. easyscience/peasy-lib)
8. Repeat the same steps for the application repository, if applicable

Notes

• The stored DOI refers to the entire software project (all releases)
• Zenodo also assigns version-specific DOIs for each release, which can be found at, for example:
  https://zenodo.org/account/settings/github/repository/easyscience/peasy-lib
• No manual action is needed after the initial setup – releases are archived automatically
