No image opens when I double click

When I update to the latest version no image opens when I double click, I have uninstalled and reinstalled and nothing, finally I went back to version 4.1 and the problem was solved.

Is PicView crashing when you double-click, or is the window simply not showing up? #372 has been fixed if the file does not match the extension. If it is crashing, would you mind posting the error log from Windows event viewer? As it is now I can't reproduce it and I'm unable to fix it without more information.

Seeing your response, I have decided to update to the latest version 5.1.3, and surprise. Same problem, otherwise the main application does not open, of course not even when double clicking on any image, from what I understand the problem is in the app and not in any association or extension, then I copy/paste the details of the event viewer regarding this app.

Would you mind trying it again by downloading the portable build here https://github.com/Ruben2776/PicView/actions/runs/3613067083 (at the bottom of the page while being logged in to GitHub)?
This build contains debug symbols .pdb which would likely provide more information as to where the error might be. If it crashes again, there should be more comprehensive report in the event viewer.

Alternatively, can you open command prompt or Powershell and run it from there?

Executing via the terminal rather than the Windows shell often forces the NativeAOT runtime to print the raw managed stacktrace or TypeLoadException directly to the console before the process is killed.

It is possible that this is caused by something called Control-flow Enforcement Technology (CET) which can cause Windows to instantly trigger a fail-fast crash. This might be related to PicView version 5.1.1 that added the picview-ffmpeg.dll file in a new plugin directory. Deleting that file could theoretically fix it.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your patience.

I have one last resort to try at pinpointing the issue. This build will still crash on your system, but it should write a picview_crash.log text file at %LOCALAPPDATA%/PicView. If you would mind giving it a spin and pasting the contents of the text file here, I'd be grateful and should be able to fix it once I know what problem is causing it.

Additionally, you can check if there is a crashdump file at %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps. If there are several files, you can open them with a text editor and press Ctrl+F and check if it contains PicView.
