3-button navigation bar overlaps the webview content

If a device's navigation mode is set to "3 (or 2)-button navigation", the navigation bar covers the the webview:

A workaround is to add some padding to the web page, as https://hotwire-native-demo.dev/ does:

However, it would be nice to have a proper fix.
It looks like the existing applyDefaultImeWindowInsets function should be using smth like maxOf(imeInsets.bottom, systemBarInsets.bottom) for the bottom inset.

Having the same problem. In our case, using padding is not possible, as we have fixed bottom navigation (we plan to switch to native navigation, but it's pretty complicated, so we would like to be able to offer the app even now.
Is there any way to bypass this while waiting for fix?

I also tried adding android:fitsSystemWindows="true" to fragment, but that doesn't work
