EFT: transaction number is the identity; same-reference hand entries warned; next-business-day for weekends/holidays only; SA holidays; Absa payer copy - #867
1. Transaction number is the identity. For any payment that carries its own bank transaction number (Absa Transaction number, FNB Trace ID, SB/Nedbank Reference Number, Capitec notification no.), the dedup and "already used / cannot be used again" decision key only on that number (the fingerprint claim). A reference+amount match never blocks, holds or warns about it:
manualTwinSettleCheck: a txn'd bank record is never refused because a used hand entry shares its reference+amount. It's reported as txnOverManualTwin and logged as EFT_TXN_OVER_MANUAL_TWIN. The hand entry is still refused once its bank twin is spent.
approvedTwinSettleCheck: a txn'd record is an approval's twin only when it has the same number.
searchEftPool: no sameUsed warning on a txn'd payment.
bankTransactionIdOf (eft-fingerprint.cjs) is the one definition. The Absa synthetic identity stays the fallback for notices with no number.
2. Manual entry: same reference is warned, not blocked.eftPoolManualEntry accepts a second same-reference+amount entry as its own record and returns warning {code: "similar-entry", key, status, message}. Kept: bank-twin-waiting, the settle-time twin-used refusals of a hand entry (bank twin spent / proof approved), entryId idempotency. New: the exact same entry (ref, amount, note) under another entryId within 10 s is a double tap, answered with the first record (already, doubleSubmit).
3. Next business day narrowed. A later-dated payment is accepted only when the day it is judged on is a non-business day (Sat, Sun, SA public holiday), or the eve of a public holiday. It is accepted up to the next business day. On a normal business day, "dated tomorrow" refuses as scheduled. DKIM, destination account, dedupe, the 2026-10-20 cutoff and Concrete immediate-only are unchanged.
4. SA public holidays. Local and deterministic: the Act's fixed days, Good Friday and Family Day by computus, the Sunday→Monday rule, and SA_DECLARED_HOLIDAYS for one-off days. Thu 24 Dec → Mon 28 Dec is accepted.
5. Absa payer's copy. The R3950 (txn 80856A…, into FNB …6625) was Absa's payer copy ("you made a payment to …") and refused as an unknown layout. The Absa reader now reads it. The payer is the single "Dear …" line, read only in that variant.
Tests: scripts/cardrecon/eftTxnIdentity.test.mjs, plus updated pins. cardrecon vitest 581 pass. functions node --test has the same 13 failures as main (social/cardTerminal, unrelated).
Deploy by name: eftPoolSettle, eftPoolSearch, eftPoolManualEntry, eftPoolManualApprove. Then pull the poller.
Manual EFT entries with the same reference and amount can be recorded as separate payments, with a similarity warning. Recent exact resubmissions return the existing entry.
Absa payment notices now support payer-side copies.
Bug Fixes
Bank payments with their own transaction number can be settled even when a manual entry shares the reference and amount.
Later-dated payments are accepted only within the next-business-day window when the notice arrives on a weekend, public holiday, or public-holiday eve.
… number alone
Junid, 7 Nov 2026. For any payment carrying a unique bank transaction number
(Absa's Transaction number, FNB Trace ID, Standard Bank / Nedbank Reference
Number, Capitec notification number) the dedupe and the already-used decision
key ONLY on that number — the fingerprint claim. A reference + amount match
never blocks, holds or warns about it:
- manualTwinSettleCheck: a txn'd bank record is never refused because a used
hand entry shares its reference and amount (reported as txnOverManualTwin
for an EFT_TXN_OVER_MANUAL_TWIN log line); the hand entry itself is still
refused when its bank twin was spent.
- approvedTwinSettleCheck: a txn'd record is an approval's twin only when the
approval carries the SAME number; a record with no number (manual entry,
Absa synthetic identity) keeps the full identity rule.
- searchEftPool: no sameUsed warning on a txn'd payment.
- bankTransactionIdOf (eft-fingerprint.cjs) is the one definition of
'has its own number'.
The synthetic Absa identity stays the fallback for notices with no number;
the same number still cannot be used twice or re-float (claim + spentBy).

Junid, 7 Nov 2026. eftPoolManualEntry used to refuse a hand entry when a
same reference + amount entry had been typed today (already-entered), forcing
'SOCCER T SHIRT 2'. Now it is accepted as its own record and the answer
carries warning {code: similar-entry, key, status, message}.
Kept: bank-twin-waiting (the bank's own unused notice is in the pool), the
settle-time refusals of a hand entry whose bank twin was spent or whose money
Junid approved from its proof (twin-used), and the entryId idempotency. New:
manualDoubleSubmitOf — the EXACT same entry (reference, amount, note) under
another entryId within 10 s is an accidental double tap, answered with the
first record (already, doubleSubmit) and nothing written.

Junid, 7 Nov 2026. A payment the bank dates a LATER day than the day it is
judged on (the notice's arrival; the server's now for a keyed proof) is
accepted ONLY when that day is not a business day, and then only up to the
next business day. On an ordinary business day a payment dated tomorrow is a
scheduled payment and refuses ('Payment dated … — a later day than …, a
business day: a scheduled payment, not treated as settled.'). Same-day and
earlier payments are unchanged.
settlementDateVerdict (eft-text.cjs) gains laterDatedAllowedOn /
latestSettledDay; the poller's immediacyVerdict, eftPoolManualApprove's keyed
proof check and the manual-entry twin windows all read it. DKIM, the
destination account, the fingerprint dedupe, the 2026-10-20 cutoff and
Concrete's immediate-only rule are untouched (same-day non-immediate into
Concrete still refuses). Tests that pinned weekday acceptance now pin the
refusal; a Friday notice dated Monday refuses.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Local and deterministic (no service): the ten fixed dates of the Public
Holidays Act 36 of 1994, Good Friday and Family Day from the Gregorian
computus, the Act's Sunday-to-Monday rule (s 2(1); a Saturday holiday is not
moved), and SA_DECLARED_HOLIDAYS for one-off declared days (2024-05-29).
isBusinessDay / nextBusinessDay skip them, so a holiday opens the
later-dated window like a weekend. The eve of a public holiday counts with
it: Thursday 24 Dec 2026 dated Monday 28 Dec is accepted (Junid's example) —
an ordinary Friday still does not open it.

…2026)
Absa also e-mails the PAYER's copy of a Notice of Payment ('Please be advised
that you made a payment to <shop> as indicated below.'), which a payer can
have sent to the shop. Today's R3950 immediate payment (txn 80856A…, DKIM
pass for absa.co.za, into FNB …6625) arrived that way and refused as an
unknown layout, so Junid entered it by hand. The Absa reader now detects that
variant too; every field is read exactly as before (the transaction number
is still the identity, the destination account still checked digit for
digit), and the payer — no 'Payment made by:' line — is the single 'Dear …'
greeting, read only in that variant.

…weekend-only next business day, SA holidays, the R3950
Through the poller's own chain and the settle's guards in order:
- two Absa payments sharing a reference + amount with different transaction
numbers both confirm and are each usable once; a resend of either is held;
- a reference + amount collision (used hand entry, number-less approved
proof, another bank payment) never blocks, holds or warns about a txn'd
payment — while a hand entry is still refused once its bank twin is spent;
- a re-approved proof / an already-used number is still refused;
- a second same-reference manual entry is similar (warned), not a double
tap; the exact same entry within seconds is;
- weekday 'dated tomorrow' refused; weekend 'dated Monday' accepted; Thu
24 Dec dated Mon 28 Dec accepted; an ordinary Friday does not open it;
- Concrete's immediate-only account still refuses same-day non-immediate;
- the 2026/2027 holiday calendar (Easter, Sunday-to-Monday);
- the R3950 Absa payer's copy (sanitised) is read, recorded and spendable.

Walkthrough
The changes update manual EFT duplicate handling, use bank transaction IDs to distinguish numbered payments, add Absa payer-copy parsing, and revise payment-date rules to account for South African public holidays and business days.
Changes: EFT identity, duplicate, and date handling
South African holidays now factor into business-day and later-date checks. Later-dated payments are accepted only within the applicable next-business-day window.
Absa parsing and bank transaction identity functions/lib/eft-banks.cjs, functions/lib/eft-fingerprint.cjs, functions/lib/eft-manual-approved.cjs, scripts/cardrecon/eftTxnIdentity.test.mjs, functions/test/eft-identity-reuse.test.cjs
The Absa reader recognizes payer-side copies. Numbered bank records use normalized transaction IDs for identity and approved-proof comparisons.
Similar entries with the same reference and amount can be recorded with a warning. An exact recent resubmission returns the existing record; concurrent identical submissions use a lock.
Numbered bank payments over used manual twins functions/lib/eft-manual.cjs, functions/lib/eft-pool.cjs, functions/eftPool/eftPool.js, docs/EFT-MANUAL-ENTRY.md, functions/test/eft-identity-reuse.test.cjs, functions/test/eft-manual-entry.test.cjs, scripts/cardrecon/eftRefusalFingerprint.test.mjs, scripts/cardrecon/eftTxnIdentity.test.mjs
A bank record with a transaction ID can settle despite a used manual twin. The matching manual entry key is reported for logging. The existing refusal behavior remains for records without a transaction ID.
A simultaneous double tap on a manual EFT entry can still create two spendable payments. This is the case the new lock was meant to prevent. Close the gap before merging, or explicitly accept it.

…ade, 4 Nov 2026 election day, generic greetings, comments
- eftPoolManualEntry: the exact entry also takes a 10 s create-only lock at
eft_manual_submit_locks/<fields hash>, so two taps in flight at once (the
tail cannot show an unwritten record) are answered with the first.
- Holidays: a Sunday holiday whose Monday is already a holiday moves to the
next free day (27 Dec 2022); 2026-11-04 local government elections added
(declared under s 2A, The Presidency).
- Absa payer copy: a generic greeting ('Dear Customer') is never the payer.
- Stale comments on the narrowed window and the similar-entry warning.

…n record; holiday-eve rule documented and tested
- eftPoolManualEntry: a submit lock whose first write failed names no
record; the new entry is then written as usual instead of answered with
a key that does not exist.
- approvedTwin: the redundant same-reader branch folded into
'if (idA) return idA === idB' (behaviour unchanged).
- docs/EFT-MANUAL-ENTRY.md: the weekend/holiday window and its deliberate
holiday-eve asymmetry; test: Fri 24 Dec 2027 (Saturday Christmas) opens it.

Do not continue while the lock holder may still be writing.
If two identical submissions race, the second can find the first lock before its record exists and write a separate record. Their fingerprints differ, and the manual twin check does not compare two manual entries, so both can be spent. Wait or reject while the holder is in progress, while preserving recovery from a failed first write.

… not written beside it (CodeRabbit)
The submit lock's holder may have no record yet (still writing, or its write
failed). The second tap now waits up to ~2.5 s for that record and answers
with it; if it never appears the tap is refused (aborted, submit-in-progress)
— never a second record. The lock expires in 10 s, so a retry after a failed
first write goes through normally.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Concurrent double tap → fixed: create-only submit lock (e525f98), then refused while the holder is still writing (CodeRabbit, below).
Holiday cascade (27 Dec 2022) → fixed. Election day 4 Nov 2026 added (Presidency, s 2A).
Generic greeting "Dear Customer" taken as the payer → fixed. Stale comments → fixed.
Not changed, by spec: a hand entry used first, then the bank's notice with its own txn number arrives → both spendable (logged EFT_TXN_OVER_MANUAL_TWIN). This is Task 1's rule ("reference+amount must not block a txn'd payment"). Raised with Junid.
Not changed, by spec: an Absa synthetic-identity notice plus the same payment's numbered payer copy → two fingerprints, both spendable. Raised with Junid.
Fable 5.1 vs spec (model review)
All 5 tasks conform. The holiday-eve reconciliation (needed for Junid's 24→28 Dec example) is now documented and tested (44805c2).
Submit lock pointing at a never-written record → fixed (44805c2, then refined).
The warning is not shown in the UI → POS PR junidmoh-code/marathon-pos-app#609.
Not changed, by spec: cross-reader approved proof vs numbered notice. Raised with Junid.
CodeRabbit (real review on 44805c2, 1 actionable) → fixed in the latest commit.
Substitute review of the last commit (CodeRabbit skipped it: 0 included reviews left; Claude Sonnet, model review): no blocking issues, all tests pass. Noted, not changed:
If the holder's own writes take more than 10 s (cold start or RTDB stall), a third tap could still write a second record.
A failed holder delays an identical entry by about 2.5 s, then refuses it once (submit-in-progress) until the 10 s lock lapses.
