Metadata build contract Dockerfile, Makefile |
The Dockerfile adds image metadata build arguments and labels. The Makefile adds defaults for STREAM, GIT_REVISION, and IMAGE_VERSION, then passes them to the docker-build and docker-buildx recipes. |
CI metadata inputs .github/workflows/build-and-push.yaml |
The workflow selects a latest tag based on the ref name and derives and exports IMAGE_VERSION. The operator image build receives STREAM and GIT_REVISION, using pull request values when available and fallback values otherwise. |

Explanation
No eligible functions found in the changed files. Skipping docstring coverage check. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 0 functions across 0 files. Full details: Keep Documentation Current
-
Explanation
The pull request adds user-visible container image metadata and changes the image development workflow, but it changes no README.md or docs/*.md file. Dockerfile now exposes labels for version, stream, revision, image name, and OpenShift tags (Dockerfile:38-59). Makefile now injects STREAM, GIT_REVISION, and IMAGE_VERSION into both image build targets (Makefile:160-162, 184-213). The existing development documentation covers release image tags, but it does not describe these labels or the local image-build metadata.
Resolution
Update docs/development.md or the applicable README section. Document the image labels and their sources, including STREAM, GIT_REVISION, and IMAGE_VERSION, and document that docker-build and docker-buildx pass these values as build arguments. Keep the documented release tag behavior current.

🟡 Minor · Pass metadata arguments to docker-buildx. · Makefile:206

STREAMorGIT_REVISION, so those labels are empty. AnIMAGE_VERSIONoverride also falls back to the Dockerfile default. Pass the same metadata arguments asdocker-build.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

This commit introduces a new set of LABELS into the Containerfile to ensure that we follow as closely as possible the LABELS structure other OpenStack containers follow. Most notably: - s2i.openstack.org/stream - org.opencontainers.image.revision
Ref names are expanded into the shell script. For example, a selected branch or tag named $(id) would be interpreted as command substitution when assigned directly in Bash. Pass the ref through an environment variable so it is treated as data [1]. [1] https://docs.github.com/en/actions/concepts/security/script-injections#understanding-the-risk-of-script-injections
