📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • The CA-trust init container now uses configured repository resource requirements. When none are configured, it continues to use empty resource requirements.
  • Tests
    • OpenShift deployment validation checks container security contexts and resource requests and limits across expected deployments. It also verifies the pod-level runtime-default seccomp profile and covers Dex when OpenShift OAuth is enabled.

The CA-trust init container now receives configured repo-server resource requirements. An end-to-end test checks deployment resources and security contexts, replacing the previous security-context test.

Changes: OpenShift deployment resources and validation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Set resources on the CA-trust init container
controllers/argocd/openshift/openshift.go
When cr.Spec.Repo.Resources is configured, the replacement CA-trust init container uses those requirements. Otherwise, it uses empty requirements. Its command is unchanged.
Validate deployment attributes
test/openshift/e2e/ginkgo/parallel/1-064_validate_deployment_attributes_test.go, test/openshift/e2e/ginkgo/parallel/1-064_validate_security_contexts_test.go
The end-to-end test configures component resources and checks deployment readiness, security contexts, and non-nil resource requests and limits. On OpenShift, it includes Dex and checks the pod seccomp profile. The previous security-context test was removed.

Explanation

Issue [#1350] requires the OpenShift update-ca-certificates init container to inherit spec.repo.resources when system CA trust is enabled. updateSystemCATrustBuilding copies cr.Spec.Repo.Resources into the replacement container and uses empty requirements only when the field is unset. The E2E test creates this configuration and verifies resource requests and limits on repo-server init containers. The coding requirements are met.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The source change is limited to resource propagation for the CA-trust init container. The new E2E test covers resource and security attributes for the affected deployments. It replaces the previous security-context test with consolidated coverage. No unrelated product behavior is demonstrated.

Compare init-container resources with initialResources.

The fixture enables Repo.SystemCATrust and sets Repo.Resources, so it exercises update-ca-certificates. The current assertions only check for non-nil maps and can miss incorrect quantities. Compare both resource lists with initialResources.

Require the CA-trust container and its configured resources on repo-server.

verifiedDeployments() includes deployments that do not receive update-ca-certificates. The current loop only checks existing init containers, so a missing CA-trust container or incorrect resources can pass. Add the named-container and exact-resource assertion only for argocd-repo-server; retain the generic security and non-nil resource checks for all deployments.

@olivergondza, What do you think about CodeRabbit’s comment here? I agree we should require update-ca-certificates on argocd-repo-server and match its resources toinitialResources.

Agreed it would not hurt, but I am leaning towards not doing that, because:

  • I refactored the test to be more generic than before, so it can easily verify things we expect from every deployment/pod/container such as presence of resources, security context, etc. The idea is to make it easier to extend with other deployments or attributes in the future. This would add back the specifics of individual resources making the test more complicated again.
  • The correct function of update-ca-certificates is verified in https://github.com/redhat-developer/gitops-operator/blob/master/test/openshift/e2e/ginkgo/sequential/1-120_repo_server_system_ca_trust.go thoroughly. It might not assert the presence or the config of the sidecar, but the actual outcomes of its operation.
