This PR introduces an initial test suite for the project. I started this work at a training week on good software development practice, with a task to contribute unit tests to an open-source project.
The overall test suite is not yet complete, but this PR provides a starting point.
I didn't have access to GPU so please verify changes made to the dependencies don't break the full benchmarks.
